A Bit About The Process
While we do not want to give away our methods/trade secrets and how this is done, we want you to
know how much work goes into these pieces!

First, we must choose our “base” glass and then fuse several of these layers together to form one
big/thick sheet of glass. This is the first firing in which takes at least 4 hours to ramp up to temp. and
even longer to cool down! Remember, one must go very slow on these heat/cool rates to avoid
“thermal shock” and shatter of glass! Once we have our base glass back in our hands, we have to cut
these sheets into smaller pieces to work with. Next.... we have to add our color(s) and then, Fuse
Again! Another 10 hours or longer before we get it out of the kiln and see it again!  Once back in our
hands we have to drill holes, shape the cut pieces to fit into our molds, and then... fire again! After
that firing, we take them out of the molds and start the polishing process. "Polishing" requires
shaping them with diamond grit wheels, diamond lap grinders and even a diamond belt sander! After
all of the roughness from the molds are taken off, they go BACK IN THE KILN TO FIRE POLISH! Not only
is this a labor intensive system…. The tools and materials to do this is quite costly. "Dichroic Glass is
very expensive"!
Because of this long firing process of 3 to 4 different firings, It would not be practical to do one piece
at a time!

As you can see, this is a time consuming process. It takes about 36 hours or around 3 days for a
"batch" of pipes to complete the process!
